Immigration was and still is a big issue in the United States what do we have that they want so desperately? We can give them the dream that they want with hard work and a good job.
We discriminated hard on immigrants back in the day, but yet 400,000 plus people were trying to get in at one time. So we put laws; the people who worked hard and long hours should be able to feed his/her family and work for a house to support them. Lots of people migrate into the United
States; the journey here could have been difficult. The dream for immigrants differs majorly than the ones that are Native born Americans. “Immigrants in the United States are more likely to define the American dream as the pursuit of opportunity, a good job, owning a home and in many cases, safety from war or persecution.” (Lazuk) The American dream for Native born
Americans is money, financial security, freedom and family.
Around the 1870­1880 there was a major boom of immigrants coming into America on steerages. Nearly 12 million immigrants arrived in the United States between 1870 and 1900.
During the 1870s and 1880s, the vast majority of these people were from Germany, Ireland, and
England. When all of the Eastern people came to America at once the United States had to at least make a way for it to be organized and not have bad diseases come here. So they came up with Elis Island; Elis Island is a shipping port that all of the Europeans had to go through to enter

America. They would be tested simply by walking up the stairs. If they could not do that, they could not enter our great country. On the West coast there was also a port, specifically meant for the Chinese immigrants called Angel Island. As usual there is always discrimination when another race tries to enter the United States. When most immigrants get in the United States they need a place to stay, food, and a job. Most immigrants had family stay in America so the living would be handled easily. They would take whites jobs because they have nothing to lose. They work more hours and work for cheaper prices just to make a living for him/herself and/or their family. These people made Americans very mad and discriminate and not allow Chinese mainly to enter for a long while. There was a limit on the immigration when that started to happen.
