The Great McDaniel Have you ever wondered what it takes to catch a reader’s attention? For most authors it's quite hard figuring out what can continue for many years to be attention grabbers. Most authors can usually grab a reader’s attention, but one author can really pull them in and make them read all of her books. Lurlene McDaniel is a fantastic author. She has written over 70 teenage books. There are some books that grab your attention instantly. She starts off with; death, romance, happiness sickness/ illnesses, and faith. Her strong descriptive introduction is just enough to pull the readers in and just get them hooked. She tries to relate to the readers, so she can make them more interested. She describes so precisely and it gives the reader a complete perfect image in there head to where they can just picture it themselves. So, what exactly makes her such a great author, and why is she considered one of the best? Attention Grabber: 75% of teenage girls have a celebrity they look up to for a body image they would like to have according to the National Institute on Media and the Family. - Definition of Body Image: Body image refers to one’s sense of his or her own physical appearance influenced by his/her personal experiences, personality and various social and cultural forces. - Thesis Statement: The trouble these days is that the media is constantly and greatly impacting the teenage girls of today’s generation who are aged 13 to 19 years of age to having a negative and distorted body image which leads to psycho-physical problems which cause teenagers to go to extremes in order to achieve what they perceive as the ‘perfect’ body. - Question: Do you feel ashamed, self-conscious and anxious about your body? If you do not, you have a negative body image and this essay is meant for you. Teenage girls have an increasing desire to be either ultra-thin or to have more sex appeal under the influence of the media which cause a negative body image. - In the magazine, you can see what is considered as the ‘perfect’ woman and what is not the most ‘in’ thing. Teenagers shape how they see themselves based on what they see on television, magazines, newspapers and websites. - Media images depicting ultra-thin and digitally altered women models are the reason for body dissatisfaction in girls. What they see mostly in these advertisements are tall, skinny, flawless, and beautiful women selling fashionable products. - Fashion marketers use provocative marketing campaigns featuring young teenage models such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Guess. These ads are selling more than just clothing to teens. They are also selling adult sexuality. Love is one key factor McDaniel uses to grab the attention. People around the world have different meanings and ideas of love. However, in McDaniel’s’ point of view, love is any emotion related to a sense of strong affection and attachment. Love encompasses a wealth of different feelings, from the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love to the nonsexual emotional closeness of familial and platonic love. As a result love can be expressed in different ways; however it is still a feeling towards another person or object. The words love and romance often confuse people. They seem to be the same thing to many people, but really they can have different meanings. However, in books McDaniel can express all of her feelings and if she is feeling sad she can bring that upon her books also. She writes stories and books so we can easily be entertained because we can relate to them. Love is something that cannot be expressed physically. It’s caring for someone and willing to do anything for them. Love is being emotionally involved, understanding someone on a deeper level, and it is a connection you share with your soul mate. Love is knowing you met someone you can spend the rest of your life with. It is a special and precious word that means a
