The Ugly Truth About Online Dating Many people these days think online dating is the best way to meet their significant other, but what they do not know is it is also one of the most dishonest ways to meet someone as well and the most dangerous. Of course it is easy to pick up a phone or a laptop and chat with someone, but another thing to get up, get all dressed up, drive over to some place and sit face to face with someone and have an actual conversation with a human being and not a type of screen. Online dating is for the people that are too lazy to get up off the couch and go meet someone in person. I was watching a show the other day, and one of the quotes stood out to me. “If the profile picture is only from the breast up, just assume her bottom half looks like Ursela from the Little Mermaid.” This is a perfect description of online dating, because most the time that is what you run into in online dating, the profile picture is just the persons face, or sometimes the profile picture is a picture of the persons car or house. In most cases though the profile picture is not even a picture of that person, but a picture of someone that is not well known but they are really good looking. Most people have heard of the show “Catfish”; it is a show on MTV about a guy who goes around and helps people who are online dating and want to marry or see the person they have been talking to for so long, but they want to know if that person is really who they have been talking to the whole time. I would have to say about 70% of the people on there are fake and have been lying to the person the entire time. There was an episode the other day where a guy has been married to this girl for six years, but he met a girl online and had been talking to her for two years and he was going to leave his wife if the girl was real. Iit turns out that he was being lied to the whole time, the girl he was talking to was supposedly 27 and black; then it comes to light that the girl is really only 18 and she is white. Needless to say he was upset and did not want to speak to her anymore, but that guy got shafted because his wife left him after she found out about the other girl. This is one of many examples of why online dating is bad and people should just go out and have an actual date face to face and not over Facebook or Email. One thing I can not stand is when people are like “OMG I found the love of my life.” It makes me think to myself, that person has not even met the other in person yet, so what are you in love with, your computer screen! Online dating is just stupid, if you are that desperate for a date then go be yourself somewhere where you can meet someone and have a real date and stop drooling at your computer! I read some
