The biggest and most obvious part they had in common was that both titles of the poems are seasons. In my opinion, I think that the authors used seasons for the titles because it gives a sense of time which is mentioned in the poems. Another similarity between the poems is that in the text they both talk about how time needs to slow down which personally, I believe that as well. Examples of this in “Spring and Fall” is “with your fresh thoughts care for, can you? Ah! As the heart grows older it will come to such sights colder” (5-7) and in “October” when it states “begin the hours of this day slow. Make the day seem to us less brief. The biggest difference that I noticed was that “Spring and Fall” had a named character in the story but “October” doesn’t. At the very beginning of “Spring and Fall” it says, “to a young child Margaret, are you grieving over Goldengrove unleaving?” (1-3). This clearly states who the poem is about but in “October” it never mentions a person and especially not a person with a name. Another difference I picked up on was the tone of the poems. In “Spring and Fall” it seemed to be more upset because Margaret is upset for humanity but in “October” it is sad instead of upset because they want the days to slow down so they can enjoy more of
