My reading of the Engstrom Auto Mirror Glass Plant Case was very enlightening. Based on this reading, there are several organizational issues that need to be addressed, as well as the principals I would suggest for this case study. The significant issues that are being present as the leading elements within this case study are: (a) meaningful morale and management trust issues from the employees of Engstrom; (b) misgivings by employees concerning managements suspected changes in the bonus plan rations; (c) why are the harder working employees compensated at a significantly lower level than supervisors; (d) employees upset at the lack of timeliness of bonus payments; (e) bonus calculations by management seen as “fixed”; (f) overall lack of confidence in management has regressed to the point that the work pace of employees has suffered, causing customer deliveries to be effected. …show more content…
The planned utilization of a system of bonus awards to incentivize the work ethic of employees was limited in vision. There was no attempt by management to understand what the employee’s thoughts were in relation to their long-term employment security, or the fairness of the workload (Newstrom, 2015, p. 10). While there had been an employee vote about initial implementation of the plan, the company had expended a large amount of energy to avoid the concerns of the current employees against the current use of the plan. If management had responded to the concerns, and had maintained an open line of communication, many of the employees would have been less troubled moving
