I have had the opportunity to interview, Enrique Escobar who is Honduran and originally from Central America. He is from a small fruit town called Cuyamel which is few hours from Guatemala border, in Central America and with a population of 8 million. His ethnic background and culture is Spanish with a Catholic religion, “Although there is no official national religion, 97 percent of Hondurans consider themselves Roman Catholic. The patron saint of Honduras is the Virgin of Suyapa, whose festival day is Feb. 3.” As I asked him about culture he mentioned a little history on the Conquer of Spain and Mayan. His primary language is Spanish, he also mentioned Mayan language but prefers the Spanish language. Based on my research on Honduras, it’s said “Honduras’ recorded history starts with the Maya civilization, which was supplanted by Spanish conquistadors following the arrival of Columbus in 1502.” During the interview Enrique was very kind, helpful and open about his individuality. Enrique tells me that, there’s huge banana plantations and factories where clothing is made and that is also part of their economic system. According to research, “The US-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) in 2005 paved the way for the opening up of Honduras telecommunication sector besides resulting in increased investments in country. Exports to the United States and remittances from abroad account for nearly 50% of Honduras total economic
