Enrique is in a pickle, he needs to decide whether or not to stay in the United States with his mother or to travel back to Honduras to be with his girlfriend and daughter. A reason why he wants to stay in the United States is because he,”he has long called his mother senora. Now, he says,”Ma.” With each call, he grows more loving”(Nazario 235). Enrique was distant from his mother upon arriving to the U.S. They argued and didn’t try to become part of each others lives. Now that she moved to Florida and he is cleaning himself up for Maria Isabel and Jasmin, Enrique is more understanding and forgiving of his mother’s choice to leave Honduras all those years ago. In Central America, money is scarce and mothers’ who are feeding families, sometimes over 10 people, do all they can in order to keep their kids and relatives alive. Mothers’ make tough decision to leave their lives behind in order to make money for their families. It is not an easy decision to leave, but they are sometimes forced to. They make the trip, then send back money and gifts for the children who were left behind. Children who are making the trip are usually doing it so they can find their mothers who left them. The children often feel unloved and are confused as to why their mother’s left. The gifts, money and occasional phone calls are not enough for the children to truly feel loved by their mother. The trip is to get the answers they desperately seek. Some, unfortunately, don’t get these answers they looked for. There are several reasons why women and children make these trips, and even have the thought in their head in the first place. It is not an easy trip, so the ones who do decide to make it, have a lot riding on them making it to
