Ent 101 Business Foundations: Case Study

Last semester, I decided to pursue a minor in Business Law & Ethics, as well as, marketing, as a result I enrolled in Suffolk University’s ENT 101 Business Foundations course. As a government major within Suffolk University’s College of Arts and Sciences, ENT 101 was my first course within the Sawyer Business School. I participated in business based competitions in high school; however, I had yet to gain a collegiate education within the business field. Before this semester, I had vast understanding of how government regulates commerce within the United States and Internationally, but unfortunately, did not have knowledge of basic business foundations. Using the terminology, skills, and knowledge we learned the first few weeks of class, my group created a SWOT and BSAM analysis for the company Card Swap. We developed a cohesive presentation advising the company to consider developing mall kiosk to attract a wider array of customers and establish a store front image as a short term project. As a group, we also encouraged the company to consider expanding into the mobile application market to provide customers with the convenience they wish to achieve with a gift card swapping company. In contrast to the two previous cases we analyzed throughout the semester, there was no case study which detailed the issued which was to be resolved. Rather, we were to read a series of recently published articles about the company, determine key symptoms and issues, and provide an action plan to resolve the problems. We were also required to have a well polished presentation with accurate financial analysis, for this final presentation would be for a panel of executives. With knowledge of general business infrastructure and the ability to accurately evaluate the company’s financial standing, we established that the company has a strong financial standing in the United States, however, has struggled with international expansion. With the help of studies and statistics to provide three creative and innovative alternatives to address the struggle to expand internationally.
This case study was the most valuable of the three, for a complete analysis of the company was able to be made as a result of the cumulative information we have learned throughout the semester. The first two cases serviced as stepping stones to allow my group to effectively serve as consultants for Netflix. We felt well prepared and informed to be able to successfully provide guidance to the
