Target Population
The target population for program implementation will be teenagers (aged 15- 19) who reside in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Epidemiological Assessment
An epidemiological assessment is defined as an objective assessment of the health problems that pose the greatest threat to health and overall quality of life for a given target population (Green & Kreuter, 2005). In 2013, nearly 5000 pedestrians were killed in road crashes, with over 156,000 were admitted for nonfatal injuries in emergency departments (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, 2014) report, the number of pedestrians’ fatalities increased to 5,376 in 2015. “On an average, one pedestrian was killed every two hours and injured every seven minutes in traffic crashes” (U.S. Department of Transportation: Pedestrian safety, 2014, p.1). Although, there is no age predilection for pedestrian road crashes, however, the age group which reported to have the greatest number of crashes belonged to people aged from 15-24 years (U.S. Department of Transportation: Pedestrian safety, 2014). According to U.S Department of transportation 2014 report, male pedestrians are twice as likely to have road crashes as compared to females. In 2012, motor vehicle traffic crashes involving a single vehicle accounted for 90% of deaths among pedestrians, of which 19% of the cases were hit and run crashes (U.S. Department of Transportation: Pedestrian safety,
