Erik’s Affect On Paul What comes to mind when you hear the word siblings? You might think of a strong bond, or a brother and sister. What I think when I hear siblings is joking around, small arguments and etc. But in Tangerine the two main siblings, Paul and Erik, are very different from a playful and a strong bond, because Paul is afraid of Erik. Paul is afraid of him for many different reasons, like when Erik helped spray-paint Paul in the eyes. Also Erik hit Paul's friend, and even killed one of them, which were all caused by Erik’s choices.

The first choice is Erik helping Vincent Castor spray-paint Paul’s eyes. I think that it triggered Paul's fear of Erik, although Paul didn't know why he feared Erik. At the same time, I also think this is why Paul doesn't speak up or tell on Erik. In addition, this incident lead to Paul’s I.E.P (Individualized Education Program) because he was visually impaired. Then the I.E.P got Paul kicked off Lake Windsor’s soccer team because he wasn't eligible. On the other hand, Paul went and played on Tangerine’s soccer team which lead to Tangerine Middle winning the championship and Paul making new friends such as the Cruz’s.

In the novel, on page 237 it stated “Erik and Arthur have no idea, at this moment, that they're going to face Luis again this afternoon.” and on page 238 it says “But something, obviously, had gone wrong.” These quotes are evidence that Erik had something to do with Luis’s death because Luis, Antoine and the muscular guy (Antoines friend) were going to confront Erik and Arthur, but they came back without a scratch. This affected Paul greatly because Luis was like a role model to Paul, and inspired him to help with the tangerines. A domino effect was created when Luis died, Tino and Victor attacked Erik and Arthur then they got caught but Paul helps him escape which leads to Paul being expelled because it was a level 4
