She is trying to figure out who she is and instead of creating a healthy identity for herself, she has an identity crisis (CITE THE BOOK). Her parents are wealthy and live the life of trying to constantly impress everyone around them. Sussman hated that fakeness and because of that, she begins to experiment with different lifestyles.
