Executive Summary:
The main objective of this report is to research and examine the necessary information that will help in successfully accomplishing the requirements and tasks for this project. Research was conducted to examine existing designs as well as emerging technologies to perhaps deduce any future improvements that can be made, or help get an idea for a possible solution to the problems that arise during disasters that involve high winds such as a hurricane or a tornado. This report emphasizes on the various technologies that help contribute in making the powerful impact of tornadoes less damaging to people. This system will warn the public of weather threats by wireless emergency alerts (WEA) through phones. All new phones will be WEA capable and will receive these messages. WEA’S messages are sent from the government authorities to mobile devices through mobile carriers. WEA’s use radio technology to broadcast the messages from cell towers to the mobile devices, of those who are in danger. The message will cover everything from, the type and expected time of emergency, to who is issuing the warning and even the actions needed to be taken to be safe. Frequent messages may be sent depending on how dangerous the threat is. Users will know the difference from a WEA and a regular message as it will have a unique tone that will be repeated twice, to emphasize the difference. No app needs to be installed or service subscribed, it is extremely convenient, effective and can reach people no matter where they are.
