For more than over several centuries religion and family structures have taken place in many people’s life for example in the puritans who settled in New England. During the sixteen and seventeen centuries religion played an important role towards wanting to be a model of religion(society) “city on hill”. In Escaping Salem, it clearly illustrates the role of women in the seventeenth century New England society and the enlightenment theories did affect the Stamford witch trials. During the seventeenth- century New England in Escaping Salem the role of women in society was limited, women played stay at home role.
