An Examination of Ontario Regulation 455/07 and the Demerit Point System The Highway Traffic Act can easily be considered the source of all motor VEHICLE laws and regulations, ensuring our safety as well as others' on the road. One particular regulation is contained in the Highway Traffic Act, this regulation is known as the Ontario Regulation 455/07. This mandatory regulation on all drivers in Ontario covers "Races, CONTESTS and Stunts". To ensure there are less fatalities occurring on the road, we are required by law to refrain from any actions that resemble "Races" and "Contests". These activities are: * Driving two motor vehicles in a competitive manner while far exceeding the lawful rate of speed * One motor vehicle chasing another motor vehicle * Driving in a careless and inattentive manner, disregarding other motor vehicles and endangering lives of drivers * Driving at a marked departure from the lawful rate of speed * Exceeding the lawful rate of speed in an attempt to outdistance another motor vehicle * Attempting to change lanes in close proximity to other vehicles at a marked departure from the lawful rate of speed through the ordinary flow of traffic In the Ontario Regulation 455/07, "Stunts" are prohibited when operating a motor vehicle and are considered to be similar to any attempts or activities including, but not limited to: * Driving in an attempt to lift any or all tires off the ground, driving
