The characteristics that make up a good writer along with an imagination and great observations would be the love for reading and writing. You cannot do something well and with full knowledge of it, if you don’t understand or enjoy the topic. By being able to understand and enjoy the topic you will be able to surpass the expectations that have been set for you. In both King and Zinsser’s papers they share how simplicity and practice along with the love for writing gave them their drive to pursue writing and why they have stuck with it and turned it into a career. King’s overall ideas of what makes a good writer is doing it because you love to do it. In his opening statements he hits on repetition and how you have to learn and practice writing before you can be excellent at writing papers. As a very credible writer, King has first hand experience with this, since he has been writing for decades he would know how to write a neat and organized book. He was able to write and keep writing these books well, because he learned from every book that he read. King read at any chance he could get to form his own style and continue pursuing the dream that he had of writing stories. He uses an example of his son and how he thought he liked to play the saxophone. King bought his son the instrument and signed him up for some lessons.
