We live vicariously through the characters in the book. We become connected to the characters and their exhilarating lives bring us fascination. For example, there is a sense of adventure we get from “Lord of the Flies” which sparks something in our own life. We begin to seek out more adventurous task in our day to day life. This brings forth new experiences that we would not have if it hadn’t been for the urge brought up from the novel. The conflict in “A separate Peace” stimulates the need for competitiveness and rivalry in our own life. Instead of getting that adrenaline rush from starting an argument with your best friend, you can get the same feeling by reading this novel.
