Many people are confused as to why celebrities choose to state their political beliefs. Some say celebrities just want attention, while other people say celebrities want to influence younger generations. Meanwhile, most celebrities endorse their favorite politician by using their popularity to persuade their fans to vote. American celebrities should use their status to voice their political opinions as they have a right to freedom of speech, bring attention to important issues and influence younger voters to choose their government officials. First of all, it would be unconstitutional if celebrities were prohibited from voicing their opinions. After all, the first amendment in the United States constitution provides every American citizen their right to freedom of speech. Just because they are role models and can influence how their fans vote does not mean, celebrities can not voice their opinion. For example, on Saturday Night Live in the late 1970s, Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd did impersonations of two presidents, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon respectively. In my experience, there are many issues that have been brought up by celebrities. One example, that is occurring right now is the 62 million girls. This issue was brought up by the First Lady of the United States, but she had a few famous people right by her side, Her celebrity sidekicks took an unfamiliar issue about providing the proper education to 62 million girls who are unable to learn due to their cultures, to a recognizable issue. This program branches from the Let Girls Learn which educates girls all over the world and somehow turned it into a phenomenon the majority of the world wants to participate in.
