I have chosen to research the chickasaw tribe. I originally chose this tribe because it was fun to say, but after a lot of research, I have found this tribe to be incredibly interesting! One of the things that I found was that the tribe is a hunting and gathering culture as well as a farming culture. The women would grow beans,corn, and squash, while the men would hunt deer, bears, wild turkeys, small fish, and sometimes,buffalo. Their diet also consisted of nuts, berries and herbs that they had gathered. They dried up some of the meats that the men gathered. The men that were considered important among the tribe wore special tattoos with unique patterns and designs, and most men painted their faces and chests during festivals and wars. The woman also participated in painting bright and festive colors on each others faces, and tying each others hair up with strings of beads. The men could not participate in this activity because

A popular story among the tribe is The Big White Dog And The Sacred Pole. This story is about the making of the chickasaw tribe. The children had things like beaded dolls and stickball to keep them busy. Some of the children helped their parents with the hunting and gathering.

There are quite a few famous, or well known chickasaw out there that are from the chickasaw nation. The first Native American in space was astronaut John Herrington of the Chickasaw Nation.
