Growing up, parents tell children that they cannot make a proper living without a job. According to some color guard instructors, this is completely false! Colorguard can be considered what one may like to call an underground sport. The term "color guard " cannot even be found in the Occupational Outlook Handbook. This does not go to say that the occupation does not exist. In fact, color guard is closely compared to the art of dance. One of the most helpful skills that people may find when becoming a color guard instructor is the ability to be able to work with people of different personality types. This is an especially true thing as she says, " Each kid is different. You have to cater to each individual" (Fain 1). With each personality type, there comes a different way of approaching techniques. An instructor needs to be able to teach dance technique as well as technique on various types equipment such as flag, rifle, and sabre. The instructor should also be able to asses these techniques. This is usually done during the beginning of the season. Keeping track of payments is also an important part of the success of a color guard program. Money collected it is used to fund activities done by the guard. The social aspect of color guard is very important. "Always be nice to people.It'll help in the long run" (Fain 2). Building personal relationships with people in the industry will help and instructor to move to higher social classes of the color guard
