In V for Vendetta, the Character Evey experiences a rebirth by shaving her head. Her conversion is forced upon her by V through torcher and imprisonment, forcing her to deal with emotions that she had been running from her whole life stemming from the government killing her mother and father because they were political activist; rebelling against the false truth that the country forced upon their people. Knowing this, the imprisonment pushes her to live without fear invoking revenge. When Evey is free from the imprisonment of V, she encounters one of her colleagues, and she does not recognize her. This is a significant indication that she is no longer the same person. She now has freedom and control of her own mind. Her colleague cannot physically or mentally identify with her because she now has a different perspective; the government no longer has her believing in their dictatorship. The other people that the government has complete control over may not believe what the government believes to be true, but they are willing to play it safe to get by. They take comfort in what they know to be familiar. V states in his speech about a revolution that “words always retain their power… for those who will listen and annunciation of truth” which he is suggesting that something is wrong with a government that wants to have complete control over their people.
