Historians have called this period the Reformation, because it mark reformed the ways of government back to control by non-religious leaders. This change taught people that they did not have to have to be controlled and manipulated by the Church. It also proved that the peasants, and other less wealthy citizens, could have a say in how they were governed. This realization led to the ideas of freedom and even democracy. For example, less than one hundred years later, the people through the courts of law placed limits on the ability of the king to rule be proclamation: “Note, the King by his proclamation of other ways cannot change any part of the common law, or statute law, or the customs of the realm”(1).
The Reformation was an event that took power from the Pope and the churches and in return gave it to the people and the monarch. This act began the thought of a free society and democracy. The idea of democracy is that the people have a say, by voting, in how the polity is run. The success of the Reformation showed people that they could have the power to change how they were governed even though they did not have the ability to fight a war. Although the Reformation was not casualty-free, it show that the people could change their country without winning a
