Can you imagine how it would be like if you knew that you have limited time to live? That’s how it feels to have melanoma skin cancer. Melanoma is caused by overexposure to ultraviolet rays in sunlight, which arises in melanocytes cells that produce pigment, more precisely the overproduction of the skin pigment melanin. Melanoma causes 75% of skin cancer fatalities since it is the most deadly type of skin cancer by spreading to other body parts including organ (4). Being the most life-threatening type of skin cancer, one person dies of melanoma every 57 minutes, and 1 in 50 men and women will be diagnosed with melanoma of the skin during their lifetime. In two patients the nicolumab has sometimes caused blackouts, a lot of sweating and tiredness. These side affects may be very dangerous if exposed to dangerous areas such as a dangerous working environment. Warwick Steele (melanoma survivor) said, “experienced night sweats and even had two brief blackouts when on the new drug. But it was all worth it.”(5) Nivolumab is a very limited drug and isn’t available for anyone, this might cause rage within countries where melanoma patients cannot or are not being treated with nivolumab since, if there is a drug where upon someone can increase the possibility of fully recovering, they would desperately want that drug. This might cause an ethical conflict between individuals who all want the remedy and even political conflict since countries or individual leaders would want to cure their people, causing other countries to not have the resources like theirs. For example Japan, they are one of the first countries to have the availability of nivolumab make other countries want to “experiment” with it
