Having a part-time job is not beneficial to a high school student. It isn’t beneficial because, it can take away from the time they have to study, meaning lower grades. They may also find it difficult to complete homework, keep up with extracurricular activities and social relationships. Lastly, it will cause a great deal of stress on the student. From the time a student wakes up in the morning and get home from school, they’ve already lost half of their day. By now it’s in the afternoon and the student heads off to their night shift job at the grocery store. He comes back home and starts to cram for school. When a student in high-school takes up a part-time job it takes away the time where they get to study. As soon as they get home from school they get ready to go to work, which leaves barley enough time to study. A survey was taken and it showed that students with a part-time job working more than 13 to 20 hours a week is associated with lower grades. With this loss of time, students only have so much time to complete the homework assignments given by the teacher. Homework in high school usually takes about 1-2 hours a day to work, and that doesn’t include the time to study. Extracurricular activities wouldn’t be an option with all the time focused on either work or school. Having a part-time job also can cause a great amount of stress on the student.
