Formality/Tone Both pieces by Bromwich and Madden et al use a formal tone. This is exemplified by the fact that both works speak in the third person and do not use any slang in their writing. However, Bromwich’s paper uses sophisticated language, whereas Madden et al’s paper is written in a more straightforward and direct manner. The benefit of using sophisticated language is that it gives the author authority and make him seem like he is knowledgeable about the subject, however this comes at the expense of the reader’s comprehension. Madden et al’s clear and articulated language allows the reader to understand the content very easily.

Types of Evidence

Although Bromwich and Madden et al both discuss the concept of publicity in today’s day and age, they use different types of evidence to refute their claims. Bromwich mainly uses examples from books and movies to demonstrate his claim. For instance,

This is because these three features can either make the piece very coherent and simple, or very convoluted and complex. In the case Madden et al’s “Teens, Social Media, and Privacy”, the grounds and formality of the paper were very clear, which made it very easy for a reader to follow the author’s main points. However, the readers may have been inundated by information due to the length of the paper, and, in turn, may misinterpret the main claim of the piece.
