Firstly, what is sovereignty? What makes a country sovereign? The most basic concept of identifying sovereignty would be borders, population, legitimacy and security. Having borders around a country would let other countries know what is theirs and what isn’t. Firstly, we have to improve relations with other countries. This is to protect population and security to prevent wars from happening in Singapore. On top of building relations, we too have to beef up our security. Training our military helps to build relations with other countries, improve our standard of military and share and learn more techniques of training from other countries. Helping our other countries in need also builds up relations. Providing humanitarian aid to other countries increases the chances of those same countries helping Singapore when she is in trouble. Being a part of an international organization like the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) or the United Nations (UN). Such organisations could be of use to build up more relations internationally as well as seek aid from more experienced sovereign nation states. The government should also work to build up the “Singaporean Identity” to get support from the people and achieve legitimacy. Events such as National Day create a sense of identity and be proud to be a Singaporean. However, it should be done sparingly as having to many events back to back would feel a little bit constrained and shoving identity down the throats of
