When it comes to stories, the perspective employed by the author makes a huge difference in the way the story is told. The point of view in a story allows the narrator to decide how he/she will disclose the plot. Therefore, I believe the perspective employed by the author affects the way the story is portrayed because using first-person allows the readers, experience the characters and identify the main character through that single character’s eyes. Using third-person, the author is allowed to create suspense and tension to a certain extent. For example, “The Cask of Amontillado” would not have worked effectively in the third person as it did with the first person because the story focuses on a narrator(Montresor), who tells his own story, hoping to justify his gratuitous actions. If the story had been written by a third-person, Fortunato's side of the story would be included. Although, I believe the story would have been more effective writing it with a third-person, allowing a more objective perspective in the story; it would have changed the purpose the narrator(Montresor) attempts, which is to provoke emotional responses. …show more content…
The story begins by informing the reader something Mrs. Mallard does not know and ends after Mrs. Mallard has already passed away. In line 1, the writer informs us about Mrs. Mallards husband’s death, “Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband's death” (Chopin 1), directing the reader’s attention directly to the subject being presented and discussed. By the end of the story, the writer does not inform the reader about Mrs. Mallard’s death in the attempt to reveal in the story what the main character thinks and let the reader have its own
