In regards to an ethical dilemma, for one thing, republicans often oppose progressive movements that democratic people support, such as gay marriage or abortion. On the other hand, however, democrats tend to support gun control, while republicans usually favor gun ownership. Both of these restrictions and forms of support can aid in ethical dilemmas for the American people. Regarding progressive ideals, republicans can diminish the values of being more accepting in society, such as allowing gay marriage. They generally choose to support biblical text, which is unethical considering the United States was founded on religious freedom and a separation of church and state. This can help have a positive impact on the American society’s ethical standpoint on capital punishment, the value of human life, and the way in which people should be punished. A democratic view of the death penalty being unethical or immoral allows the people to have more positive and less violent values and principles on how the government deals with crime.
