Americans and Ironic Education Are Americans focusing their resources on the best educational things for their children? Are they encouraging them to be successful in life without the need of college? These are questions that should be asked daily by the school administration board. On CPR today there was a man who was discussing the need for children to be outside, rather than inside watching tv and playing video games. Children playing outside have been studied and it has shown that “their attention, creativity, and problem-solving skills” all increase drastically. Think about it. The majority of our lives in the first fifth of our entire lives is spent at school. 130 months in total for just elementary and high school. The man on the radio then went on to discuss the points of Finland and their top rating for education worldwide. For example in Finland they are doing everything possible to have class in the schoolyards and to have it outside, along with class being more fun and relaxing. There are still hard parts and different things the student have to do but overall the school boards over there are freeing up the imagination and creativity of their students to foster growing minds and increasing capabilities. Oppositely America is doing everything they can to decrease time spent outside and to lengthen the school days by shortening the already short recess times and lunch times. The man then scolded America for “needing to foster young minds”. If they want to do that then they need to find out the things that grow the students mind rather than tampering with it by shoving it into a box with four walls and a ceiling. If we are to raise a competent generation who appreciates the world around them by taking up the conservation gauntlet and saving the earth. In many other older and wiser countries like Finland, a teacher is the highest profession achievable. They are thought of with much respect in their calling. They are the highest paid people in those countries as well. If you thought about it no one would be able to do barely any jobs if teachers were non-existent. We wouldn’t have colleges to learn professions of schools to be taught the things of the world. Many other countries value education highly, this is because of the sparsity of their resources. If you come to America there is a school on every corner and a starbucks right near by. We are rich, and we do not appreciate what we have but rather whine about it. We as a whole America need to thank our teachers for doing such a great job because without teachers no one would be able to have any professions today, building up the thriving
