Title:
Home Carers play significant role in helping people with different disabilities and needs to stay in their own home. They also provide services in nursing homes and hospitals. Caring seen as woman’s work and their hard work hardly recognised. Like in Angus and Anne case . Angus saw the work Ann did as what any woman should do. Home care work changed and improved as carers becoming recognised for the skills their work requires. Also there are more man becoming home carers.
Home Carers face challenges during their daily work. Care work is very demanding, that is why carers are given care plans to work from which set out their tasks for their client. Home Carers also needs to build up trust and respect with their client. It is not in the care plan and takes a lot of time to achive it, and sometimes it stops carers meeting their daily targets. but it is very important part of their work and it helps the cared for person to feel more at ease when a stanger enters their life. Home carers face the challenge of having to know what their clients wants without having to tell them. In case of Angus he was happier that he did not have to tell Ann what she had to do she just did everything to meet Angus needs. Every person is different with different needs and feelings. It can be difficult to provide quality care. It can be challenging when trying to meet clients needs if the client does not want to be cared for. Each person has very different needs and feelings to consider. A carer has to be able to assess independently. It can also be difficult and challenging to provide good quality care aspecially when lacks of finances do not meet the cost of the care provided. It can cause cutbacks for staff and equipment which can make meeting care needs almost impossible.
Home Carers also face daily pressures in their work. They have to complete tasks set out in the care plan in specific time and also providing good and quality care in addition to earning trust, respect and kindness.
There is also pressure from clients and their families to spend more time with them. It is not always possible to for home carers to spend more time with the client as there are other clients too.
It might also be helpful for the carer to be able to work with families as a whole rather than just the individual client, as it would help to provide a better continuity of care.
My conclusion is that the challenges and pressures Home Carers face mostly are expected as each client has different needs. Home carers overcome challenges and pressures. They learn and gain confidence to face the challenges of being a home carer. There is a lot of expectation from them as home carers and they do their best to meet clients needs and to provide them with good quality care.
The needs of the carer also need to be met by allowing them the opportunity to have training to improve thir skills and to give them more recognition for their work.
Most carers find their job rewarding but to continue providing good quality care , there needs to be more support and recognition.
