The causes and effects of imperialism The Europeans have misunderstood their effect influenced Africa and their decisions. In their minds they feel as if they are helping the Africans. From the text that Europe “equipped the Congo with railroads, roads, air, and helped with sickness” (Baudouni 1). But really right after it said that Europe really “devastating agriculture” (Baudouni 1). Imperialism has also increased slavery in Africa and it has brought many deaths to Africans. Like when King Leopold wanted rubber from his Congo “free state” and if he didn’t get it he killed some Africans as an incentive to keep looking for rubber so they could live. This is not right and should not be allowed to happen anywhere in the world.
There are many reasons why the Europeans tried to imperialize the African continent. One reason was to gain resources like precious minerals, rubber, and slaves. They also did it for power and to spread their religion. None of these reasons give them the excuse for killing and taking almost a whole continent of people. In the text it states that “almost every European country wanted a piece” (introduction 1). This is just wrong how they split up Africa, neighbors, families. But the Europeans did it anyways for the “gain”.

Like in the Congo. When they were released from Europe they had many riots and two bad prime minister and the got in debt by almost four billion dollars. It states that “Mobutu had close to four billion dollars… equivalent to Zaire’s national debt.” that is insane how much money he stole from his own country. Even after the Europeans left Africa, Africa has suffered from debt government and riots for many years even after they let go.
