The first thing I thought of, is a clear difference between veterinary and human medicines. It could be debated whether or not this is a disadvantage, but treating animals as a whole requires much more knowledge than human anatomy itself. Veterinarians also have to do meticulous examinations in order to diagnose what is wrong with the animal, since the only proof is provided by the owner and the animal's actions/current state. There's also huge diversity of species living on earth- the basic anatomy of a human being is much simpler than learning a huge spectrum.
Although – much more often than not, more complicated steps taken to save a human's life over an animals. At certain points, Euthanasia is used as a last option for animals to prevent the spread of a disease, while with people, there would be massive outrage.

I believe they mostly matter to those in the profession- for example, treating those who cannot speak could invoke motivation to pursue the career further. A couple things that could be listed as disadvantages though- Veterinarians are exposed to more injuries caused by animals, and Euthanasia is used much more regularly on animal cases than human. This can be emotionally damaging, especially since the pursuit of the career requires a strong love for animals in the first place.
