One specific monster that he had to overcome was Scylla. When Odysseus and his men encounter Scylla, Odysseus fought, “so I tied on my cuirass and took up / two heavy spears, the made my way along / to the foredeck,” (Homer 12.166-68). This shows that when he came upon Scylla, who got in his way, he had to overcome her to get home. There are many obstacles that gets in my way from achieving my goals. One obstacles is working with people that does not do anything. In sixth grade, I had a science project to do and my partner did nothing. I had to overcome this struggle that came my way unintentionally to finish this project and present to the class. I had to accept the fact that my partner wasn’t going to do much and I had to do as much as I could to get it done. Another example in my life where I had to overcome an obstacle was dealing with a lot of homework and stress. In school, there was a day where I had a lot of homework in each of my class. I procrastinated most of the day and I became stressed out with everything. I had things going on in my life and the timing wasn’t in my favor. I had to think positive and do my best to get everything done while listening to music because it made me happy. These obstacles were getting in my way from achieving my goal and Odysseus’.
