Macbeth Test Dramatic Irony is when the audience knows something that is going to happen before the characters in the play knows whats happening. It’s almost as if each scene foreshadows danger or guilt in the near future. An example of dramatic irony is, Act 1 scene 4, Duncan says he trusts Macbeth, and the audience knows that Macbeth is planning to become king. The audience knows that Macbeth is not aN honorable man, sneaky at most.
First example of dramatic irony in the play of Macbeth is when Lady Macbeth is trying to wash guilt off her hands while the doctor and nurse thinks she has some type of illness. The viewers know that Lady Macbeth was trying to wash her hands free of guilt but no one else knew. The theme of this scene would be remorseful. Now Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking, recalling people she and Macbeth have caused to be murdered like Duncan and Lady Macduff. Earlier in the play Lady Macbeth didn't care, but now she seems haunted by her actions.

Even though that Macduff's family died, this scene still happened; ¨How does my wife?¨- (Macduff) ¨Why, well.¨- (Ross) ¨And all my children?¨- (Macduff) ¨Well too.¨- (Ross). Third example of dramatic irony is when King Duncan visits the castle to honor Macbeth's elevation to Thane of Cawdor and the audience knows that the king is going to be murdered, but the king has no idea. This sets a theme of blind ambition when King Duncan is trying to celebrate Macbeth, but he doesn't know reality. The theme of this scene would be illusion.
