After Mercutio dies Romeo knows that, even though bad things have happened, a greater terror lies ahead. In Act 3, Scene 1 Romeo foreshadows greater terror when he says “This day’s black fate on more days doth depend/This but begins the woe others must end 3.1.115-116” He tells that the bad things that have happened will only get worse.
