In the novel “Thirteen Reasons Why” Hannah Baker, the main character, has a change in identity. At first, Hannah is a vivacious student who is excited with life has to offer her. Then she slowly starts to descend into a state of sadness.This change in identity is mostly like due to how the other characters interacted with Hannah and how they treated her. Each person on the tapes have a different detrimental effect on Hannah and in return Hannah’s identity starts to evolve. The first character to effect Hannah’s identity was Justin Foley. Justin was Hannah’s first kiss and her first crush since she moved. Justin then proceeded to spread rumors about his kiss with Hannah, that involved a lot more than just a kiss. This is when Hannah’s identity started to changed. When Justin told the rumors they circled around to everyone at school, giving them a different perception of Hannah, that was not true. Because of the rumors Hannah lost the chance to a new start in a new town. Alex used Hannah to get revenge on someone else by voting her “Best Ass in the Freshman Class”. This then furthered Hannah’s bad reputation and opened the door for everything bad that happened to Hannah. At this point, Hannah starts to shut down socially, because everyone has already formed their opinion about her through the rumours and the list Alex made. The list then prompts the next character, Tyler Down to stalk Hannah. When Tyler stalks Hannah and takes pictures of her, he takes away the one thing she loves the most, looking out the window and watching the stars. This is important because Tyler takes away Hannah’s privacy and her freedom to express
