People define heroism in many different ways. Some say that you need to wear a cape and tights. Whereas others say that you just need to help out in some way. A hero needs to be an inspiration to someone. Imagine a brave, selfless, and forgiving person, Jonas from the Giver, Louis Zamperini who was a POW camp survivor, and Bethany Hamilton who is a shark attack victim, all showed examples of these characteristics which made them an inspirational hero.
Jonas from The Giver is a true hero. He showed all the three characteristics without a doubt. “He wept because he was afraid now that he could not save Gabriel. He no longer cared about himself” (Lowry 173) this quote from The Giver shows that Jonas was brave enough to take care of Gabriel. He no longer cared about himself, his mind was set to save Gabe, by doing this he might be risking his life but then again he is saving one at the same time. Jonas is a forgiving person, he forgave the Giver for giving him all those bad memories at once. Louis was a hero in so many ways that you couldn’t describe. “If I can take it, I can make it.” - Louis Zamperini. He wasn’t the type of person who did all for show so that he could look like a hero. He was a true one. Being brave isn’t as easy as it sounds. Louis fought for his country and survived in the POW camps. Like said before a true hero needs to show selflessness; Louis took beatings for his friends, fought for his country, and always made sure his friends were okay. You don’t always see that in many people. Forgiveness is another thing he should be appreciated for as a hero. He forgave “The Bird”, who was a Japanese Prison Guard who really had it out for him. After Louis escaped from the camp he wanted to go back and kill “The Bird” but instead he forgave and wanted to forget about
