Miller shows us countless of examples of courage through our tragic hero, John Proctor. John struggles throughout the entirety of the play with his guilt. He knows he did his wife wrong and all he wants to do is make things right, but without ruining his reputation. When his wife is taken into custody after being accused by Abigail, it finally occurs to him what he has to do, and what he could lose in the process. Proctor goes to the court the next day and demands to be heard. Even though he knows the penalty for interrupting the court, he knows that whatever happens will be worth it if it means he can save Elizabeth. Judge Hawthorne won’t listen to him though, until John finally admits to lechery in attempt to prove Elizabeth innocent and Abigail guilty. He
