In the article about the prison Abu Ghraib, there are many examples of ethos, pathos and logos throughout the text. For an important and powerful topic statement, it is critical to appeal to all three points. However, in this specific article and topic pathos and logos were the most prominent and used. During Major General Antonio M. Taguba’s report, he lists some of the horrific wrongdoings, such as “Breaking chemical lights and pouring the phosphoric liquid on detainees; pouring cold water on naked detainees; beating detainees with a broom handle and a chair; [etc.].” (The New Yorker) These quotes from the report are examples of pathos, because of the strong display of violence to open the reader’s eyes to the cruelty.
