It is an honor to be before you, Your Majesty. I am Hernando De Soto and I am here to ask you, the powerful and mighty king Charles V, if I may be granted the ability to conquer Spanish territory also known as La Florida, in North America and the title of governor in Cuba. I am not asking you for money because I will fund the expedition at my expense but simply for the permission to venture into La Florida territory. Previously, I have petitioned to you and asked to conquer Ecuador with your permission and to have rights to the Amazon River basin. However, you have refused and I acknowledge and respect that decision. Perhaps if I tell you more about myself and my accomplishments you will allow the La Florida expedition to proceed.
