Ferris Bueller’s Day Off reinforces teen film iconography. All the scenes that contain Ferris or other teenagers are well light and generally cheerful except for Cameron’s earlier scenes. The scenes, which contain adults, especially Mr. Rooney, are not very well lit and give off a sort of evil and empowering theme. Because Ferris and the other teenage scenes are so well lit and cheerful it shows the distinct line between the adult authority figures and the kids who just want to have fun. This distinct line allows you to take your desired side in the movie supporting either the adults or the teens.
