Heidegger’s four guest became greedy with the power that the water had. They wanted more so they could stay young forever. They all resumed their old habits and began to relive the troubles from their past. This was a success for Dr. Heidegger proving that even if given a second chance to change humanity will always repeat its history and will continue to make the same mistakes of its past. Dr. Heidegger’s conclusion of the elixir was that even if the water from the Fountain of Youth was at his doorstep he would not drink from it. As he said, “having had much trouble in growing old, I am in no hurry to grow young again” (Hawthorne, 1860). I agree with Dr. Heidegger, if you make a mistake you are suppose to take it as a learning lesson and live with that decision. Also humans were meant to grow old and wither away and die, if everyone were meant to stay young forever and never die the world would become corrupt from all the repeated
