In The Tragedy of Macbeth, Shakespeare takes us on an adventure of sorts and this adventure takes us all down a path of darkness and treachery, that takes us into the mind of a killer and forces us to analyze their every thought. The witches in particular are a peculiar bunch that I believe have the most power because they told Macbeth what he believed to be a prophecy and even though it could have been I think he manifested his own destiny by believing what they told him. This all sounds nice but you might be a little confused so allow me to give you a little background. In that society women had little to no power and what power they did have came through their husbands. So it would make sense for a wife like Macbeths' to try and convince her husband to kill the king and see the prophecy through. Lady Macbeth saw that and took advantage of him being a complete idiot thus manipulating and forcing Macbeth to kill King Duncan.
Even though you can make a safe argument for greed, greed isn’t the most powerful because even with greed she wouldn’t have known about the prophecy and wanted to use her husband to get power. This all comes back to the prophecy from the witches reaching the mind of Lady Macbeth, with The prophecy reaching the thoughts of Lady Macbeth and bringing forth that seed of greed and century long struggle for power she, as stated above, guilts him in a sense, into killing the king and through treachery he then becomes king
