Disaster exercises are a valuable means of evaluating health care systems ability to respond to mass casualty incidents resulting from acts of terrorism or natural disasters. Exercise Poseidon was designed to identify strengths and weaknesses of the health service response, provide a learning opportunity for exercise participants, and promote integration of lessons learned into future responses.
Exercise Poseidon focussed on the health management of an event impacting on multiple local health districts across NSW. In particular, communication and patient tracking was put under the spotlight. A total of 88 personnel from multiple agencies participated in the exercise.
