In the Atheist Nightmare the argument is being presented through a design or teleological perspective. A design argument is based on the perceived evidence of design in the natural and physical world. The banana argument explains Gods existence based on the design of the banana and how its design is beneficial to humans. The shape of the banana, the protective non-slip cover, the bananas curvature, the pull tab at the top to open the banana, and its color code for ripeness all explain how the bananas intelligent design is beneficial for the human use. The argument being presented is that God exists based on his design of the banana. This conclusion can be reached through the argument presented.
P1: Bananas were designed with a tab at the top to benefit humans by making it easy to open the banana.
P2: God designs objects for human benefits.
P3: If bananas were designed with a tab at the top to benefit humans by making it easy to open, then god designed bananas.
C: Therefore based on Gods design of the banana for human benefit, God exists. Premise 1 is supported by the men in the Atheist Nightmare by explaining how the tab on the top of a banana was designed to give easier access to the banana. Premise 2 explains Gods all knowing power. Because God is omniscient, he intelligently designed the banana with a tab on the top for humans to easily open the banana. The tab on top of the banana, according to the Atheist Nightmare, “testifies the genius of Gods design”. By following these premises one can conclude that God exists based on his intelligent design of the banana for human benefits. This argument is a bad argument towards the proof of Gods existence because many people and animals open bananas from the opposite end of the tab. Premise 1 states that bananas were designed with a tab at the top to make it easier to open, but monkeys and some humans open bananas using the end opposite of where the tab is placed. When one opens a banana using the end opposite of the tab they open the banana by making a small incision at the opposite end of the tab and peeling the skin down. By opening the banana this way it is less likely that the banana will bruise. The tab also acts as a handle for the user to hold the banana so that they can eat the banana all the way down to the tab without discarding the end of a banana as humans typically do when holding that end. The toughest part of a banana is where the tab attaches to the banana which is why it is sometimes difficult to open bananas. Some prefer to choose the path with least resistance and open the banana from the end opposite of the tab. If Gods purpose of designing the banana with a tab is for easy access to the banana then the all-knowing God would have designed the banana to be beneficial by only using the end with the tab instead of allowing there to be more benefits by opening the banana using the end opposite of the tab. Another criticism towards this argument about how the tab on a banana proves Gods existence is the ability
