Additionally, both physicians and nurses from various areas were pulled from the floor to commit to a two year planning and implementation period. During the planning phase, not only did these staff members attend various meetings to discuss what needed to be incorporated to an electronic medical record, but several additional nurses attended meetings where they were able to view what the new electronic medical record was going to look like and suggest changes prior to going live. Also, during go live, if something did not work as we expected it to, they could report a needed change.
