The adjournment of parliament in 1629 was the start of a uncertain future for Britain. While it was not uncommon for the king to rule without parliament, the circumstances in which parliament had been called to an end were unlike any other; the resentment between King and Parliament meant that it was unlikely that it would be called again for a long time. There are numerous reasons for the breakdown in the relationship between the two parties that led to personal rule such as the king himself, Parliament, and Buckingham. Although these factors certainly contributed it is unfair to think of the turn to personal rule as inevitable.
In looking at the reasons why Charles resorted to personal rule,
