July 2nd, 1964. After years of struggle and setbacks, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Civil Rights Act, prohibiting discrimination in public places, providing for the integration of schools and public facilities, and making employment discrimination illegal. My favorite decade and why I’m “obsessed” with the 1940s is due to the fact that women really had to step up to the plate and realized what they were really capable of during the wars.
