Children need to have independence when caring for their skin and teeth. In my setting the children brush their teeth after lunch; the practitioner demonstrates how to and encourages the children throughout. At meal times children’s allergies should be clearly displayed, in my setting the children have photo cards at the back of their chair displaying their allergies; the child finds their own seat. The practitioner should always encourage the children to try new foods and taste the food for children who are unsure. Children at the appropriate age should serve up their own food and pour their own drinks, as well as empty their plates when they are finished. There should be a choice of milk or water for the children to choose
