Walking around drowsy is not the ideal way to start the school day especially since you have to go to school at such an early time. School should start at 10:15 AM rather than 8:40 AM. A later start will give students additional time to sleep and to make any additional preparations before going to school. Additionally, sleep has a critical function in learning and understanding. A simple solution to this issue would be to postpone the time by which students must attend school without being considered late to a later time. This will give students who wake up early extra time for them to prepare for school and provides students more opportunities to sleep. Regardless, this would be beneficial to all students should such a change occur. According to a report released by Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute, who has a start time at 10:00 AM each day, “students showed a four to nine per cent improvement in academic credit accumulation for grades 9 and 10 following the later start to the school day”.
