What you need to know about extended warranty

So what is an extended warranty? An extended warranty is a warranty that will work for you right after your manufacturer’s warranty expires. When you buy a car and want to get an extended warranty, you will have to get it as a separate contract. This contract is usually separate and doesn’t come with the purchase price. This warranty is a wise decision since it helps you cover some repair cost that probably your other insurance won’t cover.

Before you consider getting an extended warranty, there are some things you need to consider first. Keep in mind there are several types and options to choose from depending on your needs. Extended warranty comes in two categories: there is the Dealership extended warranty, and the Third-party extended warranty.

Factors like cost. Before getting into a contract, you should have some follow-up questions on whether there will be so hidden charge or some recurring charges or it will be just a one-time fee. Ask whether in case of repairs if you will need to pay any deductibles or if they will cover everything.

If the cost of the warranty exceeds the value of your car, then you are probably better off without it.

You will also need to ask for the terms of the warranty. Some warranty will only cover you if and only if some specific conditions are met. You need to find out all the terms since if you miss one, the warranty may be deemed void.

When signing the contract make sure you know everything that this warranty will cover. Make sure you go through the coverage explanation; this will give you an insight on what will be covered.
